FREE FAMILY FUN DAY & CAMP OUT AT THE NATIONAL CIVIL WAR MUSEUM

 Harrisburg, PA (June 4, 2007) Benatec Associates & Waste Management will be sponsoring a FREE Family Fun Day & Camp Out at The National Civil War Museum on Saturday, July 14, 2007.  Free admission will be available to all visitors, courtesy of Benatec Associates & Waste Management.  The Family Day will be packed with lots of activities for families to enjoy.  Below is a listing of the events tentatively scheduled:

Schedule of events*:

Saturday, July 14

10:00am – 3:00pm      Book signing with Colonel Black, author of Cavalry Raids of the Civil WarLecture at 1pm

10:00am – 3:00pm      Spinning wheel living historian Sue Anne Knowlton will discuss women in the Civil War

10:00am – 3:00pm      Hands-on reproduction cart in galleries

10:00am – 5:00pm      Encampment of Thompson's Independent Battery C

11:00am – 11:30am    Meet Charlie Melton, Confederate Soldier

11:00am – 4:00pm      Civil War period face painting

11:00am - 4:00pm       Noah's Ark Traveling "Stuff-Your-Own" Animal
                                    Workshop

11:30am – 12:00pm    Use of herbs in Civil War period

12:00pm – 12:30pm    Recruiting station - Join the Union Army

12:00pm – 4:00pm      Hot dogs, chips, ice cream & refreshments will be available for purchase

12:30pm – 1:30pm      Songs & Stories of the Civil War with Matthew Dodd

12:30pm - 1:00pm       Infantry lecture

1:30pm - 2:00pm        Civil War period children's games

2:00pm - 2:30pm        Civil War period baseball - Learn about it and join us in a game 

3:00pm - 3:30pm         Women's roles in the Civil War

3:30pm - 4:00pm         Ghost stories with author Mark Nesbitt

4:30pm - 5:00pm         Recruiting station - Join the Union Army

4:30pm - 5:00pm         Meet Hiram Rigger, Union Artillerist

*Schedules and times are subject to change.  Inclement weather will route activities indoors.

Camp Out**

6:30pm & 8:30pm        Ghost stories with author Mark Nesbitt around the campfire

6:30pm - 8:30pm         Civil War period literature with Thompson's - journals,
                                     letters, poems & free time

**Please note that the Museum closes at 5:00pm. Registration for the overnight camp out is required by July 6.

The National Civil War Museum's seasonal hours of operation are: Monday
through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. Admiss
