CIVIL WAR TRAILS DISCOVERY WEEKEND ACTIVITIES AT THE MUSEUM

 Harrisburg, PA (May 2, 2007) Civil War Trails Discovery Weekend for Harrisburg will be taking place on Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24 this year.  The goal of Discovery Weekend is to draw both local and out-of-town visitors to discover the region's rich history.  The National Civil War Museum will be offering 1/2 price admission on both Saturday & Sunday for all those who dress in Civil War period attire.  Below is a listing of the events scheduled for the weekend at the Museum.

Schedule of events:

Saturday, June 22

10:00am – 3:00pm          Book signing with Tom Huntingdon, author of Pennsylvania Civil War Trails

10:00am – 3:00pm          Spinning wheel living historian Sue Anne Knowlton will discuss women in the   Civil War

10:00am – 3:00pm          Hands-on reproduction cart in galleries

10:00am – 4:00pm          Rusty Dicks will portray a medical surgeon from the 83rd Pennsylvania
 Volunteer Infantry.  Learn about the trials and tribulations of the average
 soldier through the eyes
of the man who took care of them: the Civil
 War surgeon

10:00am – 5:00pm          Encampment of the 42nd Mississippi Infantry, Co. F

10:00am – 5:00pm          Encampment of the 2nd US Artillery, Battery M: artillery demonstrations at
                                     11am, 1pm & 3pm

11:00am – 3:00pm          Lucy Cadwallader will be demonstrating the makings of hair jewelry.

1:00pm - 3:00pm            Wayne Motts, executive director of the Adams County Historical Society, will present a class on “Electronic Research and Research in the Digital Age”. This session is geared towards those who are interested in genealogy military research.  The presentation will be free, however there will be a $10 fee charged to those interested in taking an informational packet with them.  The proceeds will go to the Adams County Historical Society.

 The National Civil War Museum’s seasonal hours of operation are: Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the Museum is $8.00 for adults, with reduced rates for children, seniors and families.  For more information about this event, please call 717.260.1861, or visit the Museum’s website at www.nationalcivilwarmuseum.org.
